Wild west on way to lobinstown
The Hoedown in Lobinstown on Saturday 23rd May at the Meade Potato Company Farm in Lobinstown promises to bring the spirit of the Wild West into this corner of north Meath. Complete with country music, a pig roast BBQ, bull riding (the mechanical variety) and a showdown by local footballers all aiming to win a prize for their club, the Hoedown has all the elements of a rip roaring night on the frontier.
'We are on the border of Meath and Louth so this is a frontier town, and you know from watching cowboy movies, how much fun they have in frontier towns!' laughs Hoedown Committee member and Syddan Club chairman James Sheehy.
WildWest, the successful country outfit currently enjoying much success on the continent, will be joined on stage by special guest Mary Duff, who has taken a break from her busy UK tour to help out her local club, Syddan, who are staging the night. With WildWest performing their new, as yet untitled, single and Mary Duff doing a rare performance in her hometown, the night should attract country music fans from across the county.
'We are really looking forward to performing at the Hoedown, the organisers are going all out to transform the venue into a barn dance with real atmosphere,' comments Jim Finnegan of WildWest.
Injecting a bit of the rodeo spirit into the night will be a mechanical bull offering guests a chance to try their luck at bullriding. Moving their contests from the football pitch to a different arena, local footballers from GAA clubs in Meath and Louth will battle it out on the night to stay on the bull the longest. The winner will receive €100 for their club.
The night kicks off at 8pm and guests will be shown some good old down home hospitality with a pig roast barbecue included in the entrance price of €25. BBQ pork, burgers and salads will keep all the cowgirls and cowboys well fed, and a bar will be available. Raffles, competitions and prizes will also be on offer for the revellers on the night.
Tickets cost €25 and can be purchased from Donohue's Pub Woodtown, the Post Office in Lobinstown, the Sally Garden Pub Rathkenny, Kevin Flanagan Butchers Drumconrath, Dee Local Pub Nobber, Callaghans Butchers Ardee or by calling 086 382 1545. Over 18s only. In aid of Syddan GFC.
