Streetcar heads for Solstice Theatre

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play, 'A Streetcar Named Desire", makes its Solstice Arts Centre debut later this month, presented by the Navan Theatre Group. The Tennessee Williams" play, which is set against the steamy backdrop of New Orlean"s French Quarter, stars Noelle Tobin in the central role as the fragile southern belle, Blanche DuBois; Darragh Feeney as her violent brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski; and Ciara Cassoni as the compromised but determined sister, Stella Kowalski. Nigel Ryan plays Mitch and offers a possible means of escape for Blanche. The play tells the haunting story of how Blanche DuBois, who lives in a fantasy world with illusions of grandeur, seeks refuge with her sister, Stella, and Stella"s domineering husband, Stanley, with detrimental consequences. In one memorable scene, Blanche leaves the apartment, uttering the famous line: 'Whoever you are - I have always depended on the kindness of strangers.' Director Caitríona Heslin says Tennessee Williams was one of the most influential playwrights of his generation. 'Having won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama exactly sixty years ago with this play, the Navan Theatre Group is delighted to bring 'A Streetcar Named Desire" to local audiences,' she explains. Navan Theatre Group which is community based, was formed in 1991 and to date has produced a diverse range of plays. Over the past three years the group has focused on Irish playwrights and performed 'Juno and the Paycock", 'Sive" and 'Philadephia, Here I Come!"
