Meath-based retailer"s laptops for schools plan

Meath primary schools can benefit from a free laptop PC, support a worthy charity and boost recycling in a new campaign announced by home media and mobile retailer, Click.ie. Under the scheme in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation and supported by BPI Telecom, Meath primary schools who collect and donate 100 old mobile phones for recycling will benefit from a free laptop. To date, 25 primary schools nationwide have participated in the programme and 30 laptops have been delivered. 'At a time when local primary schools are under severe budgetary pressure and there is a shortage of resources, this is a great way for their pupils to benefit from new technology while supporting a great charity,' said Maurice Muldoon, managing director, Click.ie. Meath schools interested in participating should email info@bpi.ie. The Click.ie schools campaign is part of a programme organised by BPI Telecom which hopes to raise up to €1 million for the Meningitis Research Foundation by requesting the public to donate old mobile phones. There are approximately 250-300 incidences of meningitis each year in Ireland, the majority of which will affect under-fives. The Meningitis Research Foundation has estimated that two deaths a month will occur in 2009 as a result of meningitis and septicaemia. As well as an online store, Click.ie has eight stores in Ashbourne, Athlone, Carlow, Cavan, Limerick, Gorey, Navan and Maynooth with plans to open another two stores in city locations in 2009.
