Jimmy Smyth and support in Beggy's tonight
Jimmy Smyth and Kerry artist Karrie are performing in Beggy's of Navan tonight, Thursday.
Navan native Jimmy Smyth once turned down an offer from Phil Lynott to join Thin Lizzy and was nominated for a Grammy in 1989. Jimmy comes from the renowned family on the Kells Road with sisters Gloria, Patrice and brothers Tony and Shane following Dad James into the music business.
The legendary guitarist has worked with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Van Morrison, Tony Childs, Roger Daltrey, Curtis Steigers, Chaka Khan, Lisa Stanfield, Gilbert O’ Sullivan, John Scofield and Jon Lord from Deep Purple with whom he played the 'Concerto for group and Orchestra' the year before he died! In the late 70s, Jimmy fronted the legendary Bogey Boys, who had U2 as their support!! Nowadays Jimmy plays also with The RTE Concert Orchestra, Frances Black, Donal Kirk and Mary Coughlan and somehow finds time to be Head of Guitar at BIMM College in Dublin!
Jimmy has been collaborating with Karrie over the last year, writing songs, recording together and playing live. Karrie’s single “This Time” has been receiving rave reviews after being playlisted by RTE Radio for FIVE weeks. Karrie, Jimmy and band will play live in Beggy’s on 22nd September, with support from local singer/songwriter Chelsea Nolan. Karrie’s new album will be launched in Whelan’s Dublin on Sunday 9th October and also in the beautiful Triskel Theatre in Cork on Friday 14th October.
