Shave and dye in Nobber yields over €4,000 for cancer charity
A total of €4,200 has been raised to date for the Irish Cancer Society through a very successful 'Head Shave and Dye' event in Keogan's Lounge, Nobber, on Saturday 27th August. One of the organisers, Thomas McCormack, said that the aim was to highlight the great work being done by organisations like the Irish Cancer Society in helping people and their families who have gone through the pain of cancer. A huge crowd attended, so large, in fact, that Thomas said "it was as if there was no recession in Nobber!" Fundraising volunteers chose to either have their head shaved or hair dyed. Some 21 participants got their head shaved and 14 others got their hair dyed. Jacinta Casey and Deirdre McIlroy of Cute Cuts Hair Salon in Nobber did the head shaving and assisted the volunteers from the audience who bid to cut strips of hair. The hair dyeing was carried out by Lynn Farrelly and Laura O'Brien, hairdressers who are both from Nobber. The lads that got their head shaved were: Thomas McCormack, Andew O'Brien, Alan Farrell, Darren Lambe, Philip McEntee, Sean Olwell, Brian O'Reilly, Robert Lambe, Niall Farrell, Barry Smith, Brendan Heffernan, Barry McEntee, Cathal McCabe, Gordon Englishby, Christopher Duffy, Aodhán McEntee, Alan McGivney, Pauric Weldon, Kenneth McCormack, Padraig Fox and Patrick O'Reilly, Participants who got their hair dyed include Colin Clarke, Dermot McCormack, Christopher O'Reilly, Conor Halpin, Gerry Campbell, Owen Elliott, James Macken, Ivan Lenihan, Anthony Owens, Kevin Lambe, Fiachra McEntee, Mark Raleigh and Brian Kelly. Vernon Skoronski of Nobber Pharmacy also got his hair dyed. Natalie Maguire from Nobber was the sole lady to participate. She said that if she received €200 go to towards the Irish Cancer Society, she'd volunteer to get her head shaved. As a result, onlookers contributed money and Natalie raised more than any other participant - €500! The organisers have thanked everyone who helped out in any way to make the event a success. A presentation night to hand over the cheque to the Irish Cancer Society will be held shortly.
