Shave and dye night for Irish Cancer Society in Nobber
A sponsored 'Shave and Dye' will be held in Keogan's Lounge, Nobber, this Saturday, 27th August, at 8pm, which will raise money for the Irish Cancer Society. The organisers are Thomas McCormack, Alan Farrell and Andrew O'Brien, all from Nobber. An auction will be held on the night for an official Ireland rugby jersey, signed by captain Brian O'Driscoll and the Irish squad for the 2011 New Zealand Rugby World Cup. Thomas said the idea to organise the event is "to highlight the great work being done by organisations like the Irish Cancer Society in helping people and their families who have gone through the pain of cancer". Those taking part include Thomas McCormack, Andrew O'Brien, Alan Farrell, Gavin Farrelly, Colin Clarke, Philip McEntee, Darren Lambe, Robert Lambe, Sean Olwell, Brian O'Reilly, Niall Farrell, Brian Farrell, Barry Smith, Brendan Heffernan, Barry McEntee, Gordon Englishby, Christopher O'Reilly, Conor Halpin, Dermot McCormack, John O'Brien, Gerry Campbell, Pauric Weldon, Paul Clarke, James Macken, Donal Keogan, Ivan Lenihan, Cathal McCabe and Christopher Duffy. The participants are currently fundraising through sponsored cards. Jacinta Casey and Deirdre McIlroy of Cute Cuts Hair Salon in Nobber will carry out the head shaves and Lynn Farrelly from Nobber, who is a hairdresser, and her crew will colour the hair of "the lads who are reluctant", as Thomas says, "to part with their hair - Colin Clarke and Darren Lambe!!" Thomas adds that on the night, people can pay for a chance to take a strip of hair from one of the particpant's heads. There will be the option of auctions and bidding to shave the heads of particular participants. A raffle will be held with prizes donated from businesses in the surrounding area. MC on the night will be Dudley Farrell. There will be music and food will also be served. Thomas, Alan and Andrew welcome everyone to the event and greatly appreciate any support given to their fundraising effort.
