It"s Oasis for Slane

Manchester"s controversial rockers, Oasis, will headline next year"s Slane concert on Saturday 20th June. Frontman Noel Gallagher and guitarist Jem Archer flew into Slane Castle today (Wednesday) for the official announcement of the show, their first concert at Slane as a headline act - Oasis played support to REM at Slane in 1995. Gallagher, whose father Tommy is originally from Duleek, said they were looking forward to playing Slane next year in front of their own fans and he added that he expected to have plenty of relatives in the crowd! He said he had fond memories of Slane in 1995 and rememered fans 'running down the hill" towards them when they went on stage. There was a huge media presence as Gallagher"s helicopter touched down in front of castle. Lord Henry Mountcharles, introducing the members of the band, said it was 'very special to have them' at Slane. The castle-owner said the concert was a 'wedding of a great band and a great venue'.
