Child safety warning at O'Growney Terrace in Kells
Residents of O"Growney Terrace in Kells have warned that children playing on the front green in the estate could be subjected to a serious traffic accident. They have urged Kells Town Council to cut the grass in the green at the back of the estate so that children could play there in safety. Residents of the estate have also called for the introduction of "residents only" parking as large numbers of people have started to park there all day. Children playing on the green which opens onto the Cavan Road is causing a lot of anxiety for local residents, who fear there could be a serious accident there. Resident Nellie Power said that small children aged two to 12 currently play on that green area. 'A child is going to be knocked down. It is very dangerous. There is traffic speeding along that road and if a ball goes out, a child will probably run after it,' she said. People driving in and out of the estate don"t know where a child is going to come from.' Ms Power said that the children would play on the green at the rear of the estate if the grass was cut and she urged the council to keep it cut for the sake of the children. She warned the problem would get even worse over the summer months. Cllr Conor Ferguson also called for the grass to be cut so that children can play in safety. And he called for landscaping and paths to be provided in the park adjacent the site of the new creche. Cllr Ferguson also stressed the importance of "residents only" parking in O Growney Terrace. 'There are a lot of people going up there and parking in the estate all day to avoid parking charges in the town,' he said.
