Georgette Jones kicks off Irish tour in Navan
Georgette Jones, described as the 'princess of country music' will be appearing in Navan as part of a major concert tour of Ireland to launch her new album 'Strong Enough to Cry'. Georgette's parents were the trail-blazers of the genre, who sang their way into the hearts of millions. Today, Georgette is carving out her niche in the world of country music. And she's doing a pretty good job into the bargain. As the only child from the five year marriage between country superstars Tammy Wynette and George Jones, Georgette was always destined to carve out a career in music. George and Tammy were often billed as the 'king' and 'queen' of country music, respectively. Their marriage caused a media frenzy back in the day, akin to that of a royal wedding today. Georgette tells the story that: "On the day I was born, legendary Nashville producer, Billy Sherrill, gave my Daddy a recording contract with my little name on it"! Georgette will be paying tribute to the music of both her parents, as well showcasing her own writing talents and amazing voice, in the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan, on Thursday 8th September. She will sing 'I Hope You Knew', a poignant song she wrote to her mother after her first anniversary. She will also sing 'The Old Me' which is from her forthcoming album, and is an up-tempo racy number about her own troubled teenage years. She will finish off with her tribute to her mother's biggest hit, 'Stand By Your Man'. After just a few visits to Ireland, Georgette has already fallen in love with the Irish people. She says: "My mom always spoke so highly about the people in Ireland. She liked the way they loved traditional country music and how friendly the crowd were and how they had such affection for the artists. "I am really looking forward to the Irish tour, and I am delighted to be joined by such legends of Irish country as Robert Mizzell, Ray Lynam, Philomena Begley, Louise Morrissey, the legendary Gloria, Mick Flavin and Quincy Raye." The tour opens in Navan, followed by The Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran on Friday 9th, The RadissonBlu Hotel in Galway City on 10th, The Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny on 11th, The Clonmel Park Hotel on Tuesday 13th, Moran's Red Cow Hotel, Dublin on Thursday 15th, The Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny on Friday 16th, The Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan on Saturday 17th, The Riverbank House Hotel on Sunday 18th and finishing up in The Dolmen Hotel, Carlow on Tuesday 20th. Fans can also see Georgette as a special guest of the World Ploughing Championships in Athy, when she will be available to 'meet and greet' at their Irish Country Sound Pavilion all three days from Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd and will be performing a few special treats there. Georgette will also be doing a series of interviews for RTE and TV3, as well local regional radio stations.
