Elderly woman robbed of pension in own home

An elderly Navan woman was robbed of her pension in her own home at lunchtime last Friday. Navan Gardai are investigating the disturbing incident, which occurred at Scallanstown, Navan, at around 1.40pm. The pensioner had been in her back garden putting out her washing only to find, when she returned inside, that two men had broken into her kitchen and were in the middle of robbing her. The woman threatened to call the Gardai but the brazen pair were unmoved and continued searching her home before taking her pension money, which she had earlier collected. The two culprits are described as being around 5' 8" in height and are of slim or 'ordinary' build. One of the men wore a black hooded top while the other, who wore a grey hooded top, was described as having a bandage around the wrist and forearm of his right arm. After the men had left, the woman, who was shaken but unhurt by her frightening, rang Gardai and a local patrol car was soon on the scene. The two left on foot, possibly to a vehicle parked nearby. Gardai have carried out a technical examination on the house. Gardai say there was no violence used during the incident and that neither men carried any visible weapons or tools that might have been used in a break-in. Anyone with information on suspicious individuals or vehicles in the Scallanstown area, between Navan and Kells, at around Friday lunchtime is asked to contact Navan Garda Station on (046) 902 1445.
