Former candidate to run independent as FF names Navan candidates
Fianna Fail has announced its candidates for the Navan and Slane electoral areas for the local elections in June. Sitting councillors Shane Cassells, James Mangan and Tommy Reilly will be joined by the Mayor of Navan, Padraig Fitzsimons, and newcomer Marguerite Fitzpatrick, PA to Dublin Deputy Cyprian Brady, on the Navan ticket. The candidates were written to on Wednesday to inform them of their selection. The selection has led to a Fianna Fail activist, Navan businessman Adrian O'Donnell announcing that he intends to put his name forward as an independent candidate. Having previously contested the 1999 local elections gathering 560 votes and canvassing extensively in all subsequent elections he says he is confident that he has the political experience and knowledge necessary to put his name before the electorate as an Independent candidate for the Navan area. In Slane, sitting councillor Pat Boshell will be joined by publican Wayne Harding and party activist Sinead Moore Collier to run in June. Fine Gael has announced county councillors Jim Holloway and Patsy O'Neill will be joined by town councillor John Duffy on the ticket in the Navan electoral area, and is believed that a fourth candidate will be added onto the ticket
