Julianstown celebrates title of 'cleanest town' in Meath
The residents of Julianstown were celebrating on Thursday night, having won the overall title of the cleanest town in County Meath in . The awards evening for the annual Meath County Council Anti-Litter League took place in Navan's Solstice Arts Centre, where hundreds of volunteers attended to hear the results of the Anti-Litter League which ran in March and April. Cllr Ann Dillon Gallagher, cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, thanked all of the community groups for their efforts in keeping the county looking its best for residents and visitors to Meath. She said: "Litter in all its guises is a serious problem and diminishes enjoyment of our own communities. Sometimes you might think you are fighting a losing battle, but this is not so. "Irish Business Against Litter tells us that our towns and villages are improving year-on-year, and together we will triumph." Tom Dowling, Meath County Manager, extended thanks to the community groups and reiterated the continued support of Meath County Council, councillors and staff, for their endeavours. "This was a bumper year with this initiative, with many towns, villages, housing estates and schools coming on board," said Bernadine Carry of Meath County Council. "Over 90 took part so competition was tough and the judges had a difficult task finding the ultimate winners with so many great participants." Winners Category A: 1. Kilskyre; 2. Fordstown; 3. Beauparc Station. Category B: 1. Julianstown; 2. Broomfield; 3. Castletown. Category C: 1. Oldcastle; 2. Dunboyne; 3. (joint), Enfield and Trim. Category D: 1. Churchlands, Slane; 2. (joint), Bellair, Moynalty, and Oak Court, Dunderry. Category E: 1. Hillside Drive, Castletown; 2. Fr Flood Park, Dunderry; 3. Courthill Drive, Dunboyne. Category F: 1. Hillview Estate, Dunshauglin; 2. Old Balreask Wood, Navan; 3. Woodside Estate, Bettystown. Category G: 1. St Patrick's Classical School, Navan; 2. St Joseph's Secondary School, Navan; 3. Eureka Secondary School, Kells. The title of the best new entry went to Mornington Court, Mornington.
