Geraghty treble at Kempton Park
Barry Geraghty was the man in form at Kempton Park on Saturday where he recorded a treble for trainer Nicky Henderson. The Meath jockey won the novice chase with Nadiya De La Vega and a novice hurdle with Chablais and completed the hat-trick when Polyfast won a handicap chase. Geraghty was back in action at his local track, Fairyhouse, on Sunday where he produced the Prunella Dobbs-trained Our Girls Salley to win for the fifth successive time in a mares' novice hurdle. The trainer confirmed that a return to Faiyhouse next month ahead of the Cheltenham Festival is on the cards. Andrew Lynch partnered the John Larkin-trained Bayross to a 33/1 success in the opening maiden hurdle at the expense of the Willie Mullins-trained 4/7 favourite Sous Les Cieux while Gordon Elliott was also on the mark when Davy Russell steered Beautiful Sound to victory in a handicap chase. Lynch was successful with the Henry de Bromhead-trained Darwins Fox in a listed hurdle at Naas on Saturday. “Andrew gave him a brilliant ride and he'll stick to wherever he gets softer ground,†stated the trainer. After finishing second at Fairyhouse on New Year's Day, the John Carr-trained Benash got his head in front despite a big weight in a handicap hurdle. The Coral Cup at Cheltenahm is the target for the seven-year-old which was winning for the third time in only eight starts. Summerhill jockey Robbie Power took his tally for the season to 11 when Old McDonald won a maiden hurdle. Noel Meade and Nina Carberry teamed up to win the bumper at the Kildare track when Knockgraffon King proved strongest ahead of Dantes King Robbie Colgan enjoyed a trip to the winners' enclosure at Thurles on Thursday when Just Friends won the beginners chase following the last fence departure of Big Secret. Geraghty can look forward to another outing with Big Zeb later this month. The Colm Murphy-trained 10-year-old will run at Punchestown in the Tied Cottage Chase on Sunday 30th January. Geraghty has pertnered Big Zeb to his last six wins.
