Community Games AGM held in Trim
Meath Community Games Committee hosted a very successful national AGM of the national Community Games in the Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim, last weekend. Almost 100 delegates from all over the country gathered for the organisation"s 38th national AGM which was opened by Meath Community Games chairperson, Noel Gannon, on Friday evening. This the first year that Meath has ever hosted the AGM and, ironically, it is the first year since 1970 that the national finals of the games will not take place the County Meath venue of Mosney. This year, the national finals will take place in Athlone Institute of Technology. On Friday evening, the elections of the president and general secretary took place. The directors of the board were elected on Saturday morning and this was followed by motions and recommendations, which also continued into Sunday morning. Meath had put forward three motions seeking changes to the rules of the tag rugby but these motions were unsuccessful. Cllr Gerry Reilly of Trim Town Council welcomed the delegates on Saturday and spoke of how he had owned the land that the Knightsbrook Hotel was built on and spoke about the hotel. Cllr Brian Fitzgerald also welcomed delegates and said that, during theses times of doom and gloom, it was great that people were getting involved in sport which helps lift people"s spirits. On Saturday night, some 370 people attended the banquet, including Transport Minister Noel Dempsey and Meath County Council cathaoirleach Liz McCormack. On Saturday, partners and friends of the delegates who were not attending the conference were brought on a tour of Meath and visited Newgrange, Slane, Tara and Trim Castle and had dinner in the Castle Arch Hotel. Rosemary Gleeson, one of the organisers of the AGM, said the delegates appreciated all they were given and shown. She also said that everyone was delighted with the hotel and the way the AGM went. The AGM was organised by Theresa McConnell, Meath"s national delegate, and Rosemary Gleeson, Meath"s Leinster delegate.
