Kells man's problem 'alcohol and anger', garda tells court
A KELLS man's problem was "alcohol and anger", Garda Robert Conway told the local court where David Coyle (24), Clonabreany, Crossakiel, was remanded on continuing bail for a probation report on 27th March next.
He appeared on charges of assaulting his girlfriend, Ann Louise Quinn, damaging a chest of drawers, her television and her mobile phone at 9 Carraig Dun, Kells, on 16th December last.
Mr Jimmy Walsh, defending solicitor, entered guilty pleas to all offences and said that his client's problem was alcohol. Garda Conway said that a row had broken out between Coyle and his girlfriend when he was drunk and threw her mobile phone into the fire. She was anxious that he now receive treatment for alcohol and anger management.
Paul Curley (28), 19 Magdelene Court and 39 Archdeaconry View, Kells, was remanded on continuing bail to 27th March when he appeared on charges of assaulting Gardai Emer Finn, Catherine Davitt, PJ Gormally and John Hanley at Kells Garda Station as well as breaching the peace, being drunk and failing to leave Archdeaconry when requested, all on 26th May 2006.
He faces a further charge of failing to answer bail on 28th June last in Kells but his solicitor told the court that Curley was addressing his mental health issues. The judge said the defendant was facing two years' imprisonment otherwise for allegedly assaulting the gardai and said that it did not concern him that Curley's girlfriend was pregnant.
