Knightsbrook appeal in Challenge Cup

Knightsbrook"s fairytale run in the Meath & District League Challenge Cup continued on Sunday when they advanced to meet Glenmuir in the semi-final after a superb victory over Bellurgan at the MDL. Following a series of protests and appeals, the Trim side earned their place in the last eight and made the most of the opportunity with a gutsy display. All the goals came in the first-half of this tie as Knighstbrook made a dream start when Craig O"Hanlon netted twice. The Louth side replied soon after and from then on the match was balanced on a knife edge. Superb defensive play from Knightsbrook ensured their victory and the winners were well served by O"Hanlon, David Gibney, Alan Gilbane and James Curran. MDL Div 1 Navan Cosmos 4 Kells/Blackwater 0 Nine-men Kells/Blackwater put up a brave fight against title-chasing Navan Cosmos at the MDL on Sunday. The Navan men were never in danger after Kevin Ivers had given them the lead on the stroke of half-time with a thunderous free-kick. Cosmos added three more goals after the interval with Wayne Murtagh grabbing a brace and Joe Martin adding a fourth. Kells/Blackwater"s goalkeeper Anthony Comiskey produced a string of fine saves to keep the scoreline at 4-0. Declan McGovern, Jason McDonagh and Murtagh were best for Cosmos while Comiskey, Stephen Murray and Eoin McNamara tried hard for Kells/Blackwater. Torro Utd 3 Clones Town 2 Torro Utd"s promotion push is alive and well after this five-goal thriller against Clones Town at Kilberry on Sunday. Aaron Englishby gave Torro an early lead which was cancelled out by the Monaghan side before Shane Tolan had them ahead again at the break. Colm Doggett gave Torro a two-goal advantage early in the second-half and they held on for victory despite Clones" late challenge which saw them half the deficit.
