Too little, too late, on Meath heritage
Dear sir - I read with incredulity the recent article on Meath Tourism's proposal for historic walks in the town of Trim. While any initiative that promotes heritage and culture is to be welcomed, the question most to the forefront of my mind is, why now after a hotel development was allowed to be built beside a medieval Castle? What will a few signs by Fáilte Ireland do to rectify the utter idiocy of previous planning application approvals that allowed that to happen? Indeed, a similar horse has bolted approach has been taken up by Meath County Council's involvement in the Tara Skryne Landscape Project. Now that the white elephant eyesore that is the M3 motorway has weaved its path of destruction through a valley of worldwide significance on a par with the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, they and the Irish Government have decided to implement a programme to diminish the impact of their gross lack of vision and competence . These programmes are aimed at protecting the landscape, preserving our heritage, developing tourism and all after they have destroyed the very thing that was at the heart of what they seek now to promote. Yours, Carmel Diviney, via email.
