Coach parking facility in heart of Kells

Kells Town Council is to look at the possibility of providing coach parking facilities opposite the gates of the Church of Ireland church in Kells. The Kells Tourism Committee wrote to the council asking it to consider the provision of coach parking at that location, which is at the heart of the monastic site in Kells. At last week's meeting of the council, Cllr Bryan Reilly said the proposal wasn't unreasonable. He said the council's original plan had to been to provide coach parking at the Fair Green and visitors could walk to the historic sites from there. He said that if two spaces could be provided there, it would be well worth it. Cllr Sean Drew said it had always been the council's objective to get tourists into the centre of town and they needed to make the tourist hotspots as accessible as possible. Cllr Brian Curran he would welcome anything that would increase the footfall in Kells at a time when the town needed a commerical boost. Cllr Sarah Reilly congratulated the Kells Tourism Committee on its hard work and said she supported the proposal. Cllr Tommy Grimes said that anything the council could do to help, it should do it. Cllr Brian Collins said that the bus park would be outside a number of businesses and he asked how would this would impact on those businesses. Cllr Conor Ferguson asked for a report on the possibility for next month's meeting. The councillors were told that civil works might be required and that officials would arrange a meeting with the tourism committee.
