Toner and Horgan enjoy Leinster win
Devin Toner and Shane Horgan played their part as Leinster produced a Christmas cracker of a performance to defeat Clermont 24-8 in the Heineken Cup on Saturday evening. In front of 44,873 at a sub-zero Aviva Stadium, Joe Schmidt's side conjured up a display that was described by former Leinster player Jim Glennon as “one of the most complete performances Leinster have ever produced in the competition.†Horgan was particularly prominent with the Bellewstown man producing another five-star display that must have impressed watching Irish coach Declan Kidney. Toner came on as a substitute for Leo Cullen after 64 minutes and played his part as Leinster closed out the game in the closing stages to leave themselves on top of Pool Two with five points to spare over Racing Metro and Clermont. Toner said when he visited Moynalvey primary school on Wednesday of last week that his immediate goal is to secure a starting place on the Leinster team although for the moment he remains second choice behind Cullen and Nathan Hines. With places in next autumn's World Cup panel up for grabs Toner will be anxious to make an impression with Leinster over the coming months although he is not looking any further than helping the Blues make an impact in the Heineken Cup. “I'm just trying to do what I can for Leinster, I'm not looking any further,†he said. Over the Christmas holidays Toner will be watching what he eats as Leinster have Magners League games against Ulster and Connacht within a few days of each other. “We've got Christmas Day off, but we've got a match on 27th December against Ulster, we have to prepare for that so we won't be eating too much,†he added.
