Nobber's first 'Celebrity' game on 7th August

Nobber GFC will play their first match in the RTE 'Celebrity Bainisteoir' series at its home ground on Saturday 7th August when they take on Irvinestown, a club from Co Fermanagh, in the first round. The privilege of playing at home was achieved by the efforts of Brendan Heffernan, Andrew O'Brien, Brian Kelly and Alan Farrell who competed victoriously against four Irvinestown players in a recent military challenge at the Curragh Camp, which included a range of assault courses. Nobber's celebrity bainisteoir is RTE television presenter Blathnaid Ní Chofaigh who, by all accounts, is determined that the Nobber team will excel. Blathnaid is from Rath Cairn where her family has had a great involvement in the Gaeltacht and promotion of the Irish language. Her mother, Nan, has been involved down the years in the Gaeltacht Irish language summer camp in Rath Cairn. So far, RTE has recorded two different training sessions in Nobber with the club and filmed in the village for the programme to be broadcast in September. A large crowd is expected on Saturday 7th August for the first match. Dudley Farrell, chairman of Nobber GFC, is Blathnaid's mentor. The Nobber team's coach is Davy Cahill.
