New Navan emergency call centre looks to recruit 50

Recruitment for up to 50 emergency call answering service operators for a new call centre in Navan is now underway. BT Ireland was awarded the Government contract to provide the Emergency Call Answering Service (ECAS) in May and will start taking live calls next February from its offices in the IDA Business Park in Navan. BT has appointed Conduit, one of Europe's leading providers of outsourced contact centre services, to recruit and manage the operators on its behalf. According to a spokesperson, there has been a very positive response to the recruitment drive. "We have had a good response rate to advertisements for Navan and are still accepting applications. Applications are being received through the Conduit website, Fás and www.jobs.ie." The new staff in Navan will process all 999 or 112 emergency calls made in the State and there are both full-time and part-time roles available. The Navan-based operators will then connect the caller to the appropriate emergency service - Fire, Garda, Ambulance or Coastguard. The rectuitment drive was welcomed by Transport Minister Noel Dempsey, who said: "This is a very welcome and a much-needed jobs boost for Meath and for the Navan area in particular. I would encourage those who think they may have the necessary skills to work in an ECAS centre to get in contact with Conduit today and to submit their job application without delay. "Conduit will be placing a major emphasis on recruiting multi-lingual staff to deal with the many languages that are handled in the call centre. I understand that operators will go through a rigorous training programme and that they will receive 'refresher training' every month." He predicted these "high-quality, attractive jobs" would be in great demand.
