Slip slidin’ away...Hundreds try out ice skating at Navan rink
Just over a week after opening, hundreds of Navan people have already been getting their skates on to try out Navan's latest Christmas attraction, the Navan On Ice rink at Navan Racecourse. The promoters, the Profile Music Group Ltd, which also brought Navan Live 2010 to the town last month, is delighted with the numbers of enthusiastic skaters, both experienced and inexperienced, passing through their doors during the first week. Situated on the grounds of Navan Racecourse on the Proudstown Road, it will remain open throughout the Christmas period until 9th January. “Our goal is to create the ultimate ice skating experience for all ages and levels of skating for the people of Navan and Meath using an ice rink, Santa's grotto, Christmas markets and stalls and general great holiday vibes throughout the event,†the organisers say. Navan on Ice in addition to featuring skating, is also offering skating lessons, discos on ice, school skating sessions and café facilities. Ice rink manager Ciaran O'Brien, predicted the venture would be a great boost to the local economy with approximately 30 staff members being employed to run the event, from reception staff to medical staff and experienced skaters as ice marshalls to patrol the ice. O'Reilly Coaches has been providing a shuttle bus service to the arena from around Navan, Johnstown and Blackcastle on a regular basis, ensuring all members of the public have options of getting to Navan On Ice at Navan Racecourse. The main box office is at the ice rink at Navan Racecourse at Proudstown, with a town outlet at E2 Music in Navan. Information can also be obtained by phoning (086) 844 7274.
