Raiders use syringe to rob Navan filling station
Two men have been arrested and questioned in connection with a robbery at a Navan filling station in the early hours of last Thursday morning, where a staff member was threatened with a syringe. At around 1.45am on Thursday 15th July, two males entered the Gala Express Shop at Cannon Row and were hanging around the shop while another customer was being served. When the customer left, they went to the counter to buy a bottle of soft drink. When the till was opened, one of the males took out a syringe, filled with a red substance, and threatened the staff member. He took the contents of two tills and the men ran off in the direction of Trimgate Street. It is understood that they made off with €700. Two men were arrested later that day and both were released that evening without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Meanwhile, Navan Gardai are investigating a burglary at Ongenstown, Bohermeen, where attempts were made to interfere with a safe, but with no success. The burglary occurred between 6.30am and 3.15pm on Tuesday 13th July and entry was gained by a back bedroom window. A burglary at Knockharley, Kentstown, which occurred between 13th and 17th July is also being investigated where items of jewellery were taken, Gardai are investigating a burglary at Fitzherbert Court, Slane Road, Navan, between 2am and 6am on Friday 16th July, The hallway was ransacked but it is undertstood that nothing was taken. An attempted burglary also took place in the early hours of 16th July at Ledwidge Hall, Slane. At around 4.55am, the alarm was activated and when the owner looked out the window, saw a male wearing a balaclava in the driveway. The householder banged on the window and the man ran away, A second male, also wearing a balaclava, jumped into a blue saloon car, possibly an Audi, which was driven by a third male. In another burglary, a Hewlett Packard laptop and jewellery were taken at Cardrath, Slane, between 4pm and 4.30pm on 15th July. Navan Gardai are investigating a break-in to a Land Rover jeep parked outside a house at Seneschelstown, between 1.30pm and 2pm on 13th July. The front passenger window was smashed and a handbag was taken from the front passenger seat. Gardai are following a definite line of enquiry after a 25-year-old man was assaulted at Ludlow Street, Navan, in the early hours of last Friday morning. The victim was hit twice in the face at around 3am on Friday 16th July as he was standing on Ludlow Street. Gardai have viewed CCTV in the area and are following a definite line of enquiry. The man suffered facial injuries and a cut above his eye. Trim Gardai are investigating the theft of an Audi A4 after a burglary at a house in St John's where the keys to the vehicle were taken. The burglary occurred between 10pm on Saturday 17th July and 3am on Sunday 18th July when the house was broken into to obtain the keys to the black 08 MH-registered Audi A4. Gardai say it was a very wet night and are appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity around the estate or people hanging around that might have stood out to contact them at Trim Garda Station. Gardai are also investigating a break-in to a house at at De Granville Court, Trim, at around 3am on Monday, 19th July. A front window panel was removed to gain entry. An attempt was made to take a television but the intruders were disturbed and left empty-handed. No vehicle was seen in the area and it is believed that the intruders made their getaway on foot. Meanwhile, Gardai in Dunshaughlin have warned residents not to leave valuable property in their cars overnight as there have been numerous break-ins to vehicles over the last fortnight.
