Wrestling superstars set for return to Ratoath

Ever since the Superstars of Wrestling sold out their last appearance at The Venue Theatre in Ratoath, the theatre has been inundated with calls from wrestling fans asking when the Superstars were coming back. To meet this demand, wrestling returns to Ratoath on Saturday 10th October at 3pm when The Venue will be transformed once again into an exciting fighting arena, as a brand new line-up of wrestlers from the USA and Europe take to the ring to produce the thrills and the spills of major league wrestling. It will be the biggest wrestling event outside of Dublin or Belfast as heroes and villains go one-on-one using a combination of strength, skill and expertise, often defying gravity. Among those who will be showing off their acrobatic skills will be the son of the legendary Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat of WWE fame. Already, with only two years wrestling experience, Ricky Junior is becoming something of an aerial specialist. He seems to fly through the air with the greatest of ease and is tipped to be the next big wrestling sensation. He already holds both the Missouri State Championship and the Georgia regional title. Steamboat grew up around the wrestling business. He was trained for the professional ring by family friend and eight-time World Heavyweight champion, Harley Race. He always wanted to wrestle but his dad wanted to make sure that he had a strong head on his shoulders before bringing him into the business. "My dad sent me to the Harley Race Wrestling Academy in Eldon, Missouri, because he wanted me to be trained by the very best," he says "and Harley is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He told me if I worked hard, then success would follow." Following a famous dad into any business is never easy for any youngster, especially if that career has been under the glare of the spotlight and TV cameras. "I'm well aware that I am carrying on the family legacy," he says "and the biggest obstacle or challenge for me has been trying to live up to my dad's name, but I'm not going to try and fill my dad's shoes, just try to fill my own." Also featured this time around will be a ladies' contest and among the competitors will be the 23 stone Klondyke Kate. Stepping into the ring to face her will be Lisa Fury, a 25 year-old part-time model who pumps weights and works out daily. She recently defeated Russian champion Vika Kamentsov to win a version of the World Championship. Tickets at €21 and €23 (inclusive of all credit card and booking fees) are now on sale from The Venue Theatre box office. Telephone (01) 689 5600.
