Unique fundraiser set to rock Causey farm

A unique fundraiser will be held this Saturday to raise funds for the Kitovu Hospital in Uganda, where Úna Murtagh from Fordstown will work as a volunteer doctor from July this year. Úna is holding the event, which is called Farmfest, at her family home - Causey Farm, between Kells and Athboy - and she promises a diverse line-up of entertainment, from céilí to comedy, live bands to line-dancing, choir recital to a traditional session. The night will finish with a DJ. 'All the sheds around the farm will have something different going on,' said Úna. 'It"s going to be fantastic craic - and the money we raise will make a real difference.' Performers will include Kane O"Rourke and Tunafish Mafia from Athboy, as well as comedian Damien Clark from Australia and a great new band called the Ugly Germans. A 15-piece band called Attention Bébé will rock the cowshed, and Cortown local DJ, Day-Li, will keep the party going till the small hours. Set-dancers will be kicking up their heels to the sound of the Tara Céilí Band in the old stone barn - the perfect venue for a Connemara Set. Tara Ladies" Choir will perform in the third venue, a quaint stone shed in the corner of the farmyard, as will Jan Muyllaert, musician and harp-maker from Ardbraccan and some of his friends. Kitovu Hospital, where Úna will work, is run by the Medical Missionaries of Mary. The paediatric unit where Úna will be based is constantly under pressure to provide services to their sick patients and often has more than two children to a bed. The money that is raised will be used to buy much-needed medical supplies for the hospital and, along with Úna"s skills, will make a significant improvement to the lives of many children in the region. Later in her trip, she will work for Hospice Uganda, an organisation which sends medical teams out into the community to care for the dying. The majority of these people are suffering from AIDS, which affects almost one million people in the country. Tickets cost €15 and are available at Causey Farm (046) 943 4135 or on the night. The fun will start at 7pm and there will be a barbeque. For more details, call Úna on (087) 614 0276 or email info@causey.ie
