Weather is the main opponent for all teams

Local soccer players and the legislators will be hoping that there will be a clear weekend for a return to action next Sunday after a series of postponements, due to the weather has left many teams without no football at all for the last three or four weeks. The inclement weather has even prompted Torro Utd manager Joe Price to forge ahead with a proposal to form a summer league and he has scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, 20th January at the MDL, 8.30, to finalise plans for interested teams. That meeting will take place at the MDL, Navan, but Price is also hoping that his team might see some action before that date. My predictions for next Sunday's action are as follows. LEINSTER JUNIOR CUP OMP Utd v Freebooters: The Navan side have shown a liking for this competition. They knocked out top Dublin side Leicester Celtic in the last round, but this looks a bridge too far for the Navan side. Verdict - Freebooters. North End v Duleek: After getting the red card from the Challenge Cup, when they were knocked out by Knightsbrook, Duleek will be eager to show that they can cut the mustard in the provincial competition this season. Verdict - Duleek. LEINSTER JUNIOR SHIELD Johnstown v Chord Celtic: Not much between these side in Div 3A and there won't be much between them at the end of this contest. Verdict - Johnstown. MDL CHALLENGE CUP Kentstown Rovers v Donacarney: Little to suggest that there will be anything other then one outcome from this encounter. Verdict - Kentstown. PREMIER Torro Utd v Trim Celtic: This fixture must deserve a place in the Guinness Book of Records as one of the most called off games in the history of soccer. Okay, we may exaggerate a little as this one is in the league, not the Challenge Cup. No matter how many times it is postponed we will still plump for the same outcome. Verdict - Trim Celtic. DIVISION 1 Dromin Utd v Newtown Utd: Not much between these two sides in the league. Home advantage could be enough to separate them this time around. Verdict - Dromin Utd. Navan Town v Longwood: Navan Town will need to get off to a good start in the new year if they are to spark a genuine promotion bid. They should certainly pick up three points here. Verdict - Navan Town. Skryne/Tara v Robinstown: With players like Cyril Carty and Tommy Farnan in their line-out Skryne/Tara can be a real threat. Can they do the business here against a team that can be inconsistent? We think they can. Verdict - Skryne/Tara. Slane Wanderers v Marsh Celtic: Only a few seasons ago Slane Wanderers were pushing for honours in the Premier, they even won it once. Now here they are looking to pull away from a relegation dogfight. More trouble on the horizon for the Wanderers. Verdict - Marsh Celtic. DIVISION 2 Black Bull v Electro Celtic: Even considering some recent good form it would be something of a surprise if Electro managed to sneak all three points from this clash. Verdict - Black Bull. St Laurence's Gate v Park Celtic Summerhill: How Park Celtic Summerhill would love to pick up their second league win of the season here. They're unlikely to achieve that ambition. Verdict - St Laurence's. Parkvilla v Rossin Rovers: Early days to be talking about relegation, but the loser of this bottom-of-the-table clash is facing real Everest-style climb out of the mire. A point would suit both sides. Verdict - draw. DIVISION 3A Boca Rovers v Abbey Celtic: Boca have indicated in the first half of the season that they know how to close out games in the league. They have won three, Abbey have managed just one. On that basis alone we give them the nod. Verdict - Boca Rovers. DIVISION 3B Inny Wanderers v Oldcastle Utd: A long time since Oldcastle was a fortress in Meath soccer. Oldcastle are not having one the best of seasons, but at least they have a few victories in the bag. Inny Wanderers are still in search of their first win. Verdict - Oldcastle. Trim Town v Fordrew Rovers: Trim Town picked up just two wins in ther pre-Christmas programme. Fordrew could only manage one. That suggests one outcome. Verdict - Trim Town. Enfield v Knightsbrook: Knightsbrook are on a roll and it will take a massive effort from Enfield, and a lot of luck, to stop them from claiming victory here. Verdict - Knightsbrook.
