Corrie's 'Becky' for Palace appearance
'Coronation Street' actress Katherine Kelly, who plays feisty Rovers Return barmaid, Becky, is the latest British soap star to be flown into Navan by The Palace nightclub in Navan for a guest appearance. She will be travelling from Coronation Street to Ludlow Street this Friday, 15th January. Kelly says she can't wait to come to Ireland, as she has relations who come from Kerry, so she knows all about the Irish 'craic'. The popular actress won six top acting awards last year in the UK and next Wednesday 20th January, is up against on-screen husband Simon Gregson, at the National TV Awards. They are both shortlisted for the Best Serial Drama Performance at the glitzy ceremony, to be hosted by Dermot O'Leary at London's O2 Arena. Kelly says: "I grew up watching TV's premier soap with my brothers, Sean and Chris, and sister, Grace, and I recall the opening bars of the theme tune as signalling a mad rush for the TV. My mum used to turn up the volume at 7.30pm and we would all rush downstairs. It was like the beginning of 'The Simpsons' and we all used to plonk ourselves down on the sofa." And while her family was delighted at Kelly getting the part in the first place, she won't be allowed to let it go to her head. "The people back home in Barnsley wouldn't stand for it if I changed and I like that. One of my brothers is a doctor, the other is an engineer and they are constantly telling me to go and get a proper job." Darren Kavanagh of The Palace Nightclub added: "We are so happy to have Katherine as our first celebrity appearance of 2010. We had hoped to have her at the club in early December, but due to various filming commitments she was unable to come over. However as soon as a date became available she was back onto us and agreed to travel over."
