Oldcastle lighting call
A CALL on the county council to complete the final stage of street lighting in the newest phase of public housing in Loughcrew estate in Oldcastle has been made by Cllr Michael Gallagher. Speaking after meeting residents of Loughcrew, Cllr Gallagher said that traditionally the council cites the ESB as the people responsible for the turning on of the lighting whilst the ESB lay the responsibility firmly at the door of the council. 'Residents in this phase of housing are disadvantaged by the dark evenings and the children are generally kept indoors by parents. This is unacceptable and council management can"t continue to hide behind bureaucracy. 'Surely by now there should be sufficient lines of communication between a local authority and a state agency that they can coordinate the connection of electricity supply to ensure that residents have lights,' he said.
