Oldcastle playground being used by drug-dealers: Cllr

The new playground in Oldcastle is being used by drug-dealers after dark, according to north Meath councillor, Michael Gallagher. He said there was ever-growing problem of drug abuse in the Oldcastle area, and a hardcore anti-social element, which includes drug-dealers, are using the playground during the dark evenings of winter-time. After meeting with a number of concerned parents, Cllr Gallagher said drug problems were the biggest social issue coming down the line. He called on the joint policing committee to focus attention on a targeted approach to the matter. 'I would also ask residents, the local anti-drugs group and the Gardaí to remain vigilant and to reclaim our playground for the purpose for which it was intended,' Cllr Gallagher said, and he also encouraged anyone with any information about drug-dealing to contact the completely confidential and free Dial To Stop Drug Dealing number - 1800 220 220. 'This number allows you to pass on what information you know, no matter how insignificant. You will not be asked to identify yourself and will not be expected to give evidence in court,' he said. Cllr Gallagher said that, as a community, the people of Oldcastle must reclaim the playground and fight the scourge of drugs in the town.
