Flag day for Athboy 'Best Buddies"

The Athboy Community School Chapter of Best Buddies Ireland held a successful flag day in the town recently. The Best Buddies Programme pairs students with a person in the community with intellectual difficulties whereby the student contacts their 'buddy" on a weekly basis and visits and outings are arranged every second week. The programme gives the buddies an opportunity to interact with the students and enjoy the various events planned for them. The monies collected from the flag day will go towards funding the groups" various activities and outings, most notably the annual national Best Buddies Ball which will the held this year in Kells in May. Athboy Community School has been a very strong chapter in Best Buddies Ireland over the last few years and has won 'National Chapter of the Year" on two occasions. The group has extended thanks to Centra and Smyth"s in Athboy for allowing them to collect outside their premises during the recent flag day.
