Ratoath student scoops first Project Maths online prize

Dr Ann Brosnan, the National Council for Curriculum and Assesment"s maths co-ordinator, recently visited Rataoth College to present the first Project Maths online prize to first-year student Karen McCabe. Karen, who was competing against students from all school years in this competition, was presented with a certificate and a digital camera. Project Maths is the phased implementation of changes to the maths curriculum over a four-year period. The project commenced in January in 24 pilot schools and the focus of the project is to make maths more relevant to the lives and experiences of students by promoting more practical and student-centred learning. Meanwhile, teachers, staff and students of Ratoath College have been busily preparing for their upcoming fashion show on Friday next, 27th February. The event will be held in Ratoath College and promises an evening packed with the latest trends and fashions, with all clothes for the night being sponsored by top stores including Debenhams, Ever Elegant, Shabby Chic, Blondelles, New Look and Elvery"s Sports. Professional models, staff, parents and students have been strutting their stuff on the catwalk for the last few weeks in preparation. The evening will kick of with a complementary cheese and wine reception at 7.15pm, followed by time to enjoy the five Mini-Makeover stands, fire-fighter and other entertainment. Throughout the night there will be spot prizes galore for the more daring and glamorous women and men. There will also be an array of fantastic items being auctioned off during the break, including pieces of jewellery by designer Catriona Hanly and Hyland Jewellers, a designer dress from Shabby Chic, and rugby tickets for the Ireland v England match in Croke Park. The event is causing much excitement in Ratoath and promises an evening of great fun, relaxation and the latest fashion trends. Proceeds from the night will be in aid of raising funds for student facilities at Ratoath College and Meath Hospice.
