What's on the box this week?

'Bon Jovi: When We Were Beautiful' (BBC 2, Friday, 11.50pm) - An intimate glimpse of rock music giants Bon Jovi, who remain, at their core, a band of brothers from New Jersey. The documentary was filmed on the road and behind the scenes with the band during their 2008 Lost Highway World Tour, which famously came to a close with a historic concert in New York City's Central Park. At the height of their success, with another number one album and the number one grossing tour, 'Bon Jovi: When We Were Beautiful' reveals the secrets behind this legendary band's determined and charismatic leader, Jon Bon Jovi, and band members Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres. Bon Jovi has set the bar for more than two decades as one of the most successful rock bands in the world. They have sold more than 120 million albums and performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans. Their most recent album debuted at number one around the world and kicked off their current massive world tour. _____________________________________________________________ '24' (Sky One, Sunday, 9pm) - It's the final countdown for Jack Bauer as the award-winning series comes to an end with a two-hour climax to Day 8. Launched in 2001, starring Kiefer Sutherland as the heroic Jack Bauer, '24' employed a pioneering split-screen, fast-paced format with complex interweaving storylines as viewers followed US anti-terrorism agent Bauer through 24 pulse-pounding episodes, each covering one hour and presented in real time. Bauer has shown time and again he's willing to do whatever it takes to save the day, and, during the course of '24', has battled against terrorist plots, biological and nuclear threats, attempts to assassinate the US President and moles within his counter-terrorist unit. With plenty of twists and turns along the way, Bauer is now facing the final hours of day eight fighting against all those he's previously stood beside. After the shocking death of love interest Renée, he is intent on bringing to justice those responsible, whatever it takes. Unfortunately for him, it means going against President Taylor who is committed to getting the peace deal signed, no matter how, and has even accepted advice from villainous ex-president Charles Logan to make it happen. 'Father & Son' (ITV, Monday, 9pm) - Hollywood actor Dougray Scott joins BAFTA and Oscar nominees Sophie Okonedo and Stephen Rea in this new four-part drama series. Written by the late Emmy Award-winning Irish writer Frank Deasy, 'Father & Son' is set in Manchester and depicts the complexity of modern inner-city life where crime is now a global business, and where gun culture is an ever more entrenched part of everyday life. Seven years ago, Michael O'Connor (Dougray Scott) was a lynchpin of Manchester's organised crime. Upon his release from an Irish jail, O'Connor decided not to go home but instead start a new life, with his girlfriend Anna (Flora Montgomery). Anna is now heavily pregnant and they are looking forward to the birth of their first child. But, try as he might to straighten out his life, O'Connor's past comes back to haunt his plans for new beginnings. _____________________________________________________________ 'Valentino: The Last Emperor' (BBC 4, Monday, 10pm) - Storyville transports viewers into the singular world of one of Italy's most famous designers, Valentino Garavani. This film documents the colourful and dramatic closing act of Valentino's celebrated career, capturing the end of an era in global fashion. At its heart, however, is a love story that charts the unique relationship between Valentino and his business partner and companion of 50 years, Giancarlo Giammetti. 'Valentino: The Last Emperor' features intimate moments in the lives of two of Italy's richest and most famous men who reigned supreme for almost five decades over the glamorous and fiercely competitive world of fashion. _____________________________________________________________ Movie Of The Week: 'Operation Crossbow' (Ch4, Thursday, 12.45am) - Michael Anderson's WWII thriller, based on a true-life incident, stars George Peppard, Jeremy Kemp and Tom Courtenay as British secret agents who, posing as German engineers, infiltrate the German V1 and V2 rocket bases in Holland. Although one of them is captured by the Gestapo, the other two remain undiscovered and, with the help of the local resistance, lay the pathfinder lights that will guide Allied bombers to destroy the site - but, in doing so, they must make the ultimate sacrifice. Stirring stuff.
