Longwood's statement of intent
Longwood issued a major statement of intent this evening at Trim when they negotiated Kildalkey by 2-12 to 0-13 in the opening round of the SHC.
Backboned by Mickey Burke at centre-back, Longwood produced some solid hurling as they swept their way to victory with a brace of goals from Rory Maguire helping them to a 2-8 to 0-7 interval lead.
Understrength Kildalkey, ravaged by a combination of both injuries and emigration, never gave up and kept picking off the points with David Harmon sending over nine.
There was also an unexpected return for Nick Fitzgerald seven minutes into the second-half and while he scored a point for Kildalkey with his first touch, he was unable to exert enough influence to turn the tide.
Next up for Kildalkey is a tussle with Killyon while Longwood will face Kiltale.
