Local students' 'Navan App' goes live
The eagerly anticipated Navan App, developed by a group of transition year students from St Michaels Loreto Secondary School, Navan, is now available for download.
In a great coup for the local schoolgirls, who have shown tremendous marketing and publicity skills throughout their campaign, they secured ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ stars, Jack and Cormac, to play at the launch of the app at Navan Town Centre last Friday.
The second year St Pat’s students wowed the audience, and the judges, on the hit TV talent show on 11th May and have made it through to the next stage of the competition.
They performed two songs at the launch and got a fantastic reaction from the large crowd that gathered. “Jack and Cormac attracted a huge crowd. It all went really well,” said Katie Rogers, one of the nine transition year students involved in the project.
The free Navan App is available to download from iTunes and Google Play Stores, and features a wealth of information on the town for visitors and locals alike, with information on food and drink, places to visit and activities.
The app was designed by a applications developer from Clare who has created similar apps for other towns. The Navan App team of Bronagh Keelan, Amy Maguire, Orlaith Ni Fhearraigh, Rachel Gardiner, Caitriona Keogan, Lisa Murray, Sarah McNulty, Katie Rogers and Alison O’Neill were busy throughout last Friday and Saturday at their stand in the north mall of Navan Town Centre, promoting the Navan App.
It has been fantastic experience for the girls but one that also involved a huge amount of work.
“It was brilliant, really exciting. It started out as a small transition year mini-company and it ended up becoming much bigger. It was very interesting and we learned a lot,” said Katie Rogers.
The Loreto girls won the Meath final of the Student Enterprise Awards in March after impressing judges with their project. They went on to represent the county in the national final of the competition at Croke Park.
