What's on the box this week?

'England v Holland' (ITV, Wednesday) - Matt Smith presents live coverage from the Amsterdam Arena as Holland take on England. Like England, Holland have won all of their 2010 World Cup qualifiers and are the first European team to book their place in South Africa. The Dutch team includes Robin Van Persie, Dirk Kuyt and Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar and will prove a good test for Fabio Capello's men ahead of their next qualifier against Croatia in September. 'Dolce Vito' (CH4, Thursday) - In this new series, restaurateur and entrepreneur Vito Cataffo will be embarking on an epic quest and risking his personal fortune and his hard-won reputation on a deeply-held belief: that British food is the best in the world. The series will follow Cataffo as he finds a failing Italian restaurant, rescues and renovates it, transforming it into a shrine to British food. Marvel and cringe at his attempts to manage the building project, train the local chefs and waiting staff to his exacting standards and capture the hearts and stomachs of the Italian public with Great British grub. His journey will take him into the murky world of Italian bureaucracy as he navigates through the 'red tape' and 'black money' that threaten his project at every turn. It is here that Cataffo's prowess as a businessman come to the fore. From the hard-nosed bargaining with restaurateurs to negotiating business partnerships with Italian ex-girlfriends, nothing is out of reach for this visionary entrepreneur. 'The Edinburgh Festival Show' (BBC 2, Thursday) - The Edinburgh Festival Show comes from the Pleasance Courtyard - the heart of the biggest-ever Edinburgh Festival. This programme picks out the very best of the first week of the Fringe, including The Hotel, a transformed building in the city centre which offers a different theatrical experience in every room (directed by comedian Mark Watson) - and Internal at The Traverse, which explores the worlds of speed-dating and group therapy. The programme also looks ahead to the start of the International Festival (which gets underway on Friday 14th August). 'The Finishing Line' (CH4, Friday) - Noel Martin is a quadraplegic who wants to go to Switzerland for euthanasia, 13 years after he was paralysed in a brutal racist attack by neo-Nazis in East Germany. Three years ago, Martin bought a racehorse to compete at Royal Ascot. A miracle happened and the horse won, making him the first triumphant black racehorse owner at Royal Ascot. But, despite his passion, he now wants to end his life. This poignant, touching, and intimate look at the life of a courageous man explores the complex realities and emotions that are caught up in one man's desire to end it all. 'The Duchess On The Estate' (ITV, Tuesday 18th August) - Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess of York, spent more than 10 days on a Manchester housing estate to learn more about the problems of 'broken Britain.' As a result of her trip to Northern Moor, part of Wythenshawe, which is one of the largest council estates in Europe, she discovers more about the issues facing local people during her trip - drugs, crime and a lack of community spirit. The Duchess's new home for a week is a B&B on the edge of the estate. She wastes no time in getting to know the locals. "Well, you can't possibly help people if you don't know what it's like," says the Duchess. "You've got to know the area and you've got to feel it and you've got to live the life to really then want to champion it. I wouldn't want my children to be frightened to go outside." The Duchess heads to the local pub to find out why there's such apathy on the local estate, and has a game of pool with the locals, as she tries to find out why one in five men are jobless. Movie Of The Week: 'Die Another Day' (RTE 1, Wednesday) - Pierce Brosnan is Bond - still the best in this reviewer's book - with the usual array of gadgets and babes to complete the picture. Expect cheesy one-liners, dramatic chases and a fair bit of innuendo to make for an attractive stew. The perfect night in.
