Finals debut for Dunboyne dodgeballers

A game made popular by the movie 'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" is experiencing a new popularity among people of all ages, including a team from Dunboyne which took part in the final of Ireland"s first ever national dodgeball competition at the weekend. Team 'Multiple Scorgasms", Gemma Byrne, Alison Clarke, Scott Colley, Sinead Brady, Mark Convey and Kevin Furlong, were among teams of six from all over the country who battled it out at the UCD Sports Centre for a place in the final and the chance to bask in the glory of becoming Ireland"s first ever dodgeball champions. A sport born on school playgrounds, the game has been taken out of the PE classes and brought into the mainstream. Dodgeball is different in that it requires no previous experience and allows both men and women of all ages the opportunity to play together with teamwork and enthusiasm more valuable factors than athletic skill. The winning team, the Welly Warriors, displayed their dodging prowess in taking the title. Teams from all over the country fought it out for the prize of €1,000 which was up for grabs. The event was organised to coincide with the launch of Rennie Dual Action in Ireland.
