O'Reilly chosen to seek nomination to run on Meath East Fianna Fáil election ticket
Cllr. Damien O’Reilly has been nominated by the Fianna Fáil members and Fianna Fáil Cumanns across the south of County Meath, to seek a nomination to run on the Meath East Fianna Fáil ticket for the next general election.
Cllr. O’Reilly is the only Fianna Fáil Councillor representing the south Meath commuter belt towns of Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ratoath and surrounding rural town-lands.
O’Reilly was elected to Meath County Council in 2014 and is based in Dunboyne representing the Ratoath Municipal District.
Cllr. O’Reilly commented, “Since John Burton and Mary Wallace retired from national politics, the south of the county has lacked representation at a national level and constituents have no representation relating to the deepening housing crisis in the area. This coincides with increasing costs of childcare and constant failures in public transport for commuters working in Dublin city centre.
"The south Meath area has some of the highest mortgage repayment levels and rent levels in Ireland along with constantly increasing childcare fees and infrastructure deficits that must be addressed at a national level for any real change in these areas."
If successfully nominated to run in the next general election, affordable housing, quality of life issues for residents and commuters will be central to Cllr. Damien O’Reilly’s ambitions, he said.
Cllr Wayne Harding has also been nominated to contest the Meath East convention to contest the next general election. Cllr Harding said he was very honored to be nominated and thanked his nominees.
“I am almost ten years serving on Meath County Council representing Fianna Fáil and it has been an honor. I want to thank the electorate of the Laytown/ Bettystown for returning me on two occasions to Meath County Council and I believe I have worked extremely hard to represent the people of my area.
"I also have had fantastic support from the Fianna Fáil members in my local Cumans. I think it is very important for our party to have a strong contest at convention and from the candidates that have been nominated I believe it will be a good contest and members can take pride in the fact that the party is capable of attracting talented and enthusiastic people into competitions such as this.
