Dominic Hannigan (Labour Party)
Dominic Hannigan was first elected to Meath County Council in 2004, and then served as a senator before the voters of Meath East elected him as a TD in 2011, when he topped the poll.
His priorities are job creation, healthcare, education, childcare, housing and crime prevention. He is convinced that this election is about “recovery or relapse: stability or chaos”.
Pointing out how far the country has come towards recovery under the last government, his message is that Labour offers the best option to deliver balanced, responsible and stable government.
Deputy Hannigan qualified as a civil engineer and has completed additional degrees in both transportation and finance. He set up his own company in the mid-1990s, working in the transport, health and communications sectors, both at home and abroad.
He says engaging with people is important to him and he is regularly out and about talking to people at their front doors and at gatherings throughout the constituency. He runs regular clinics and maintains a full-time public office.
He successfully served as chairperson of the Oireachtas Good Friday Agreement Committee and European Union Affairs Committee.
