Death of comedian's mother

The funeral has taken place in Navan of Helen Tiernan, Balreask Old, Navan, mother of comedian Tommy Tiernan and actor Niamh Tiernan. Mrs Tiernan, wife of well-known Teagasc adviser Kevin, died on Friday night. Nee O'Brien, she was formerly of Clonmel and Carndonagh. She is survived by her husband; family Tom, Anne, Niamh and Brian; grandchildren; brother; in-laws; relatives, and friends. Mrs Tiernan was a founder of the Meath Women's Refuge in 1987 and was a dedicated volunteer in the centre. She was a former teacher who had worked in Carndonagh and Zambia. Her funeral took place on Tuesday 2nd March from St Mary's Church, Navan, to St Finian's Cemetery, celebrated by Fr Dwayne Gavin, CC.
