Boylan on board in new Director of Football role
Former Meath senior football manager Sean Boylan will take over a role as Director of Football after his appointment was ratified by delegates at Monday night's Co Committee meeting at Aras Tailteann. "This was discussed at our management meeting last week and we view it as a development from the forum we had in Knightsbrook last year, we decided to appoint a Director of Football," commented Co Committee chairman Barney Allen. "Sean Boylan agreed to take on the role and we are glad to have him back on board," he added. Boylan will act on behalf of Meath Co Committee in the development of football at all levels in the county and will assist in the appointment of managers for all county teams. This will involve the development of a uniform policy in conjunction with the coaching officer (Eamonn Barry) and games manager (Dudley Farrell) for the training, coaching and physical development of all under-age teams. Barry stated that it came as a surprise to both himself and the games manager when the details were produced at a management meeting last week. Former coaching officer Brian Carberry welcomed Sean Boylan's input, but he sought clarification on a number of matters in relation to responsibilities of the new role and who would be reporting to who. Allen informed delegates that this was the first step in the process and that a number of meetings would take place to develop the role in a positive way. Pat O'Neill suggested further discussions about the role, but Brendan Cummins stated that Sean Boylan established the Meath football ethos and would be the best man to restore Meath as a football power. "Sean has stayed loyal to Meath and we should ratify the position tonight," stated Cummins. It was approved unanimously and further meetings are scheduled to fine-tune the plans.
