McGrane in top form

Kells golfer Damien McGrane was the leading Irish finisher at the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond last weekend and proved he is in decent form ahead of Thursday"s start of the British Open at Turnberry. McGrane finished on four-under while Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and Graeme McDowell all finished on one under par. Rory McIlroy had to settle for a level-par finish while Shane Lowry closed with an eight-over 79, six-over overall. Germany"s Martin Kaymer made it two wins in eight days when he added the Scottish Open to the French Open he captured the previous weekend. McGrane"s reward for his tied 25th place finish was €33022.38. Bookmakers don"t hold out much hope for the Meath man in this weekend"s Open and price him at a generous 400/1. One decent bet might be to back McGrane at 33/1 to finish in the top 10. Stranger things have happened.
