Seamus McDonagh (Workers' Party)

Séamus McDonagh is a native of Wilkinstown, Navan, and is a life-long member of the Workers' Party. For many years, he was a community and development worker with the Dublin Inner City Drugs Network and was involved in organising the anti-bin charges and anti-water tax campaigns in Meath in the 1980s and 1990s. He is also a member of the current national Anti-Water Tax committee. Mr McDonagh is also a member of the Jim Connell Society in Kells, which organises an annual socialist and trade union festival in Crossakiel to commemorate the author of the socialist standard, 'The Red Flag'. He says the time has come for a radical socialist alternative to the failed policies of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. "The Workers' Party is committing to bring back into the public exchequer the billions which were immorally accumulated by the bankers and developers, and to reform the taxation system to ensure that billionaire tax exiles pay up and that those who can afford the most, pay the most, including a wealth tax and a levy on the banks and financial institutions," he adds. He also advocates the development of Ireland's vast oil and gas resources in the national interest, and not for private profit.
