Postponed 'Death Of A Salesman' to be staged in Navan and Trim this weekend

Trim Drama Group will present Arthur Miller's powerful play 'Death of a Salesman' in the Solstice Arts Centre, Navan, this coming Friday and Saturday, 14th and 15th May, followed by two nights in Trim Town Hall, on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd May. The show was due to be staged last month but was postponed following the sudden death of longstanding Trim Drama Group member Danny O'Brien. 'Death of a Salesman' is the extraordinarily moving story about an ordinary man whose dreams are about to come unstuck. Arthur Miller's portrayal of the American dream-turned-nightmare rocked the theatre world when it was first presented back in 1949. Willy Loman (Martin Bolger) is married to Linda (Olivia Barnes), and is facing a crisis, as he is about to lose his job and cannot pay his bills. His relationship with his two sons, Biff (Dara Kenny) and Happy (Craig Regan), is breaking down. The story involves a large cast, including Willy's brother, Ben (Kevin Shelly), neighbours and business acquaintances (Frank O'Reilly, Kevin Martin and Martin Brogan), the other woman (Carmel McKiernan) and more besides (Eoin Kenny, Louise Cassidy, Emma Stowe, Susan Brennan and Brendan Bagnall). The Trim Drama production runs for two nights in the Solstice Arts Centre in Navan on 14th and 15th May at 8pm each night. Tickets for Navan, priced at €15 and €12 (concession), are available from the Solstice Arts Centre box office, by phone at (046) 909 2300 or via the Solstice website (www.solsticeartscentre.com). This is the third Trim Drama Group production to be staged in Solstice Arts Centre. In 2006, the group presented a very powerful production of 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' and, last year, the classic 'The Plough And The Stars' was staged there. After the two-night run in Navan, the production will move home to Trim, for two nights, on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd May, Town Hall, also at 8pm each night. Tickets for Trim, priced €12 and €10 (concession), are available from James Allen Hair Design, Haggard Court, Haggard Street, Trim, telephone (046) 943 7503 or at the door. 'Death of a Salesman' is great live drama well-told and well-staged by the experienced Trim group, under the able direction of Brendan Fox, and supported, as always, by a superb technical and back-up crew.
