Third time lucky for Harchibald

Following two wasted trips to England inside the last month, it was a case of third time lucky for Harchibald on Friday when he landed the big hurdle race at Kempton Park. Trainer Noel Meade received the perfect boost to aid his rehabilitation after spending a week in hospital when Harchibald (7-1) landed the Christmas Hurdle on Friday. This was Harchibald's second Christmas Hurdle victory, he was also second in the race 12 months ago, after his win in 2004. After this victory Harchibald received a 20-1 quote from from William Hill for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next March. Harchibald came up to the leaders still on the bridle with Snap Tie and Blue Bajan on either side of Meade"s Irish raider. Harchibald found plenty for Paul Carberry this time to beat Snap Tie by three-quarters of a length. Barry Geraghty on board favourite Punjabi came down when still going well two from home.
