Kentstown driver going well

AIDAN Tully from Kentstown underlined his position as one of most improved karting drivers around when he won the KF2 Race of Champions Trophy in Kilkenny. Tully was presented with the trophy along with the prestigious C Plate which he will use on his kart for the coming year. The Kentstown driver extended his thanks to all those who supported him, including the Coby Motorsport team who work to prepare his machine for competition. Well aware of how competitive karting can be, Tully was delighted to finish ahead of the rest in Kilkenny. This was the third time this year he has ended up on the podium having had two third place finishes in Cork and Galway. 'Karting can be very competitive and it"s very difficult to win a race so I was delighted to get the victory,' he said. 'You need to have everything right on the day, a good engine under you, have the chassis right and be fit, you have to work hard on your fitness. You need to have everything right and when things go your way it"s brilliant.' Tully and his KF2 Tonykart proved to be very competitive over a weekend of action in Kilkenny. His early performances earned him second place on the grid for the final. He made a good start in the decider and took the lead going into the first corner and from there led to the finish with Richard Faulkner and Andrew Fallon finishing second and third respectively. Tully has been involved in karting for five years and has steadily graduated to the top level in the KF2 category this year. After his win in the KF2 Race of Champions, Tully is now concentrating on making an impression in the Motorsport Ireland Championship in which he is currently placed fourth with six rounds taking place over three race weekends. The next race in the championship is scheduled for the Athboy track on Sunday, 31st August when he hopes to do enough to keep in contention for the title. Another driver who is making a name for himself in an under-age class is Jack Lyons from Kiltale and he will also be chasing championship points at Athboy at the end of this month.
