Ballyduff man to run from Navan to Cavan in fundraiser for defibrillator

A Ballyjamesduff man is set to run from Navan to Cavan to raise funds towards the purchase of a life-saving defibrillator.

Cormac Kelly will taken on the challenge on Friday, November 27. The public defibrillator will be positioned at the INSPIRE Cavan Day Care service at the Backyard Complex at Moynehall, which supports young adults with autism and intellectual disabilities.

Cormac will depart Navan on the Friday morning at 6.30am and hopes to make it back to Cavan and the Inspire Centre at Moynehall between 2.30-3pm.

He estimates that the runs will takes around eight and half hours and he will be accompanied by his father in a support car with food and drinks; while his brother will be on a bike shooting video to put up on social media.

Cormac will take a few short breaks along the way in Kells and Virginia and just before he arrives back on the outskirts of Cavan Town.

He observed that the nearest defibrillator to the scheme was in the centre of Cavan Town at the Credit Union offices.

As this is some distance from the centre, it inspired Cormac to do and run and is seeking support for his endeavour.

Cormac will be wearing the INSPIRE vest on the day.

His training is going well and he is doing around 20k per week, made up of two runs of 10k and he also plays football at the weekends.

Cormac was a runner when he was younger and took it up again just over two years ago. He completed the Dublin marathon in the past two years.

“I like challenging myself outside my comfort zone and aiming to achieve goals that may appear out of reach,” Cormac said.
