Jack Fagan played a huge part in helping Waterford to defeat Kilkenny last night.

Fagan in the hunt for All-Ireland glory

This week Rathmolyon man Jack Fagan and his team-mates on the Waterford team will be turning their thoughts to the upcoming All-Ireland SHC final after their rousing victory over Kilkenny last night.

Fagan played a major part in helping Liam Cahill's side recover from a seven-point deficit at the interval to win the semi-final by 2-27 to 2-23 after a thrilling second-half display. At one stage in that opening half Waterford trailed by nine and looked out of it.

Five years ago Fagan made his debut for Meath in the Christy Ring Cup - and now he is in line to win the biggest prize of all.

Fagan studied in Carlow IT and played for the college side before moving on to turn out for Waterford club De La Salle.

He did not feature for the senior county side under previous managers Derek McGrath and Paraic Fanning but he most certainly has under current boss Liam Cahill.

Earlier this year Fagan, along with former Brighton & Hove Albion player Dessie Hutchinson was selected to start their first Munster SHC game against Cork. Waterford won that game but subsequently lost 0-21 to 0-25 to Limerick.

Waterford got their campaign back up and running when they defeated Clare 3-27 to 3-18 in the All-Ireland quarter-final with Fagan getting his team's third goal.

With his athleticism and ability to take scores Fagan has nailed down his place on the team and now looks like he will start in the All-Ireland final.

His ability to pluck the ball out of the air was huge factor in helping Waterford open up the Kilkenny defence for two goals last night.

The goals went a long way towards turning around Waterford's half-time deficit and sensationally defeating Brian Cody's Kilkenny who had an impressive opening half but were swept away by Fagan & Co in a performance that will raise hopes in the county that they can win the All-Ireland final which will be played on Sunday 13th December.

Fagan will be doing all he can to ensure it will be a lucky day for Waterford.
