Why this week's front page means so much to us all...
Good evening folks,
This week's Meath Chronicle will be hitting the shelves this evening, a day earlier than usual to allow for the Christmas break.
We could think of no better way to mark the last calendar edition of 2020 than to remember the loved ones lost in the midst of this cruel pandemic
A heartfelt thanks to the residents of Abbeygrove estate in Navan who shared their poignant stories with us about their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters who left us this year, all without the send-off they deserved.
Last Saturday afternoon they gathered at the tree they planted in memory of loved ones lost in 2020, to not let the year pass without coming out to remember them and stand in solidarity with families across the county and country who have suffered unbearable loss in these last 10 months.
The dignified neighbours and friends of Abbeygrove hope their small symbolic gesture brings some "light and hope” to other heartbroken families and send a virtual hug of support and solidarity with those grieving far and wide.
Thankfully we had some great news too this week and plenty to lift the spirits.
The brilliant achievements of the Meath Ladies who landed All-Ireland IFC title in Croke Park on Sunday is thoroughly covered in sport.
We have a super 8-page festive TV Guide for you while chef Gerry Meade walks you through the simple tips to make your Christmas Dinner a cracker!
We followed the wonderful work of the Garda teams in Kells, Trim and Navan, spreading Christmas joy around to the vulnerable members of our communities by delivering hampers and Christmas cards.
Gavan Reilly looks back at 2020 and the strangest year in politics, especially for Micheal Martin, while Paul Hopkins in a poignant column still believes this could be the best Christmas ever.
As well as some touching messages home from readers living abroad we've Christmas messages from the churches including Bishop Tom Deenihan explaining why "faith can never be one confined to a church building".
