Death of former Navan auctioneer, Pat Faherty
The death has occurred of former Navan auctioneer, Pat Faherty, at Care Choice Nursing Home, Trim.
The Drumree native retired from business on Bridge Street 10 years ago, after 30 years.
He began his career with the late Pat Lally, when semi-detached homes in Navan were making from €16,000 to €20,000, and sites in places like Skryne were selling for €6,000.
After four years with Pat Lally, who later went into horse training, Pat started up his own business. He sold Kilcarn Court, as well as a lot of Silverlawns, Abbeygrove and Blackcastle.
Early on, a lot of work brought him to rural Meath, as far as Drogheda, Mullingar, Oldcastle and Clonee, but Navan soon became a busy base for him, and he found himself doing most of his business around the town.
He was involved in the acquisition of the lands at Pace, Dunboyne, for Dermot McKeown and Kilsaran Concrete. In more recent years, his main client has been Elmcourt Developments, headed up by Michael Cunningham from Dunsany, which built developments in Navan such as Moathill Manor and Beaufort Place.
Predeceased by his brother Michael, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty Dunne); daughters, Gillian and Pamela; grandchildren, Cían, Séan, Aiden, Lochlan, Hannah and Aishling; brothers, Maurice, Gerard, Liam and Desmond, sisters Mary McLoughlin, Noreen Greally and Bernadette Sheehy, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
In keeping with current Government restrictions, Pat's funeral will take place privately. A memorial Mass to celebrate his life will be held later, when safe to do so.
