Walterstown residents organise weekend litter-pick
Members of the local community in Walterstown are taking it into their own hands to clean up their area by organising a litter pick up today, Saturday 6th February and tomorrow Sunday 7th February.
Those who wish to take part in the pick up are been asked to gather at Walterstown Church at 10 am on both mornings before setting out in various directions to gather litter.
Bags and gloves and litter pickers will be made available at the church carpark before the pick up gets underway. The organisers of the pick-up say that all assistance will be greatly appreciated.
In recent years the roads and laneways around Walterstown have been subjected to people fly-tipping various kinds of rubbish into the ditches.
Meath County Council have been very active in taking up the rubbish once they are notified however now local citizens, committed to their community, are going that extra mile or two by foot to collect any loose material that is around.
Despite larger fines for those who are found to engage in fly-tipping it continues to be a problem in some areas - now members of the Walterstown community are making their own contribution to cleaning up the local countryside by organising the pick-up with strict lockdown rules applied.
